What happened to the downtown farm?

At the end of 2023, E.A.T. South staff learned that the farm site contained many more chemicals than we were originally told. The food has always been grown in imported soil, but the chicken coup, outdoor classroom, and other structures were built on land that had never been cleaned up. Closing the downtown farm was a difficult choice, but it was necessary to keep ourselves and the community safe.

With the help of Thriving Earth Exchange, a project of the American Geophysical Union, we documented our experiences with the goal of helping other groups with decisions about where to grow.
